Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) Program

The Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) program is a legal pathway to work in Japan in various labor shortage sectors. It provides skilled foreign workers with an opportunity to build a career in Japan with long-term prospects.

Eligible Sectors

Currently, applicants can apply under the following categories:

  1. Construction
  2. Agriculture (Crop farming and livestock)
  3. Caregiver
  4. Driving

 

Program Offering

Requirements

To apply for an SSW visa, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Language Requirement:
    Pass at least JLPT N4 (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) or equivalent language test.

  • Skill Certification:
    Pass the designated skill test for the selected category.

  • Education Requirement:
    Must have completed SSC (Secondary School Certificate) or HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate)

Visa Duration

  • Type 1 (SSW-1):
    Valid for 5 years. Initially, workers under this category cannot bring family members.

  • Type 2 (SSW-2):
    After completing Type 1 and gaining experience, the visa can be extended for another 5 years.
    At this stage, you are allowed to bring your spouse and children to Japan.
